Caring for Psychological Aspects to Improve Seniors' Quality of Life

Psychological support for the elderly is like offering a helping hand during difficult life moments.
At the Foundation, psychological support is mainly directed at patients of the home hospice and their caregivers, with psychologists visiting them for individual sessions.
During meetings with the psychologist, the Foundation’s wards tackle the most challenging topics related to unfavorable prognoses, often incurable diseases, and death. Our psychologists also provide services in day care homes, where both group and individual sessions are held. If needed, we also offer psychological support to seniors in their homes.
Here are some key aspects of this support:
Emotional Support
Seniors may experience various emotions related to aging, loss of loved ones, health changes, or physical limitations. Psychotherapists and counselors provide emotional support, listen to patients, and help them cope with emotional difficulties.
Working on Acceptance of Changes
The aging process often involves many changes, both physical and life-related. Psychological support helps seniors accept these changes and find new ways to cope with life’s challenges.
Trauma Therapy
Some elderly people may have life experiences that cause trauma or severe psychological disorders. Psychological support can include trauma therapy, which helps process difficult experiences and regain a sense of security.
Learning to Cope
Psychological support can include teaching older people effective strategies for dealing with stress, anxiety, or depression. Therapists can teach relaxation techniques, meditation, or ways to build positive social relationships.
Promoting Social Activity
An important element of psychological support is encouraging seniors to maintain active social contacts. Participation in support groups, interest clubs, or social gatherings can help prevent social isolation and improve well-being.
Psychological support for the elderly aims to improve their quality of life, provide emotional support, and help them cope with the difficulties associated with aging. It works comprehensively, considering the individual needs and life situations of each elderly person.
